These images were taken when I was wandering around Sarajevo city centre.
The Latin Bridge is the most famous of many bridges built during the Ottoman period. It was built in 1798, however, it is remembered for much later, tragic event. Here, on 28 June 1914, the Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife Sophie Chotek. This made Austria declare war on Serbia and that conflict subsequently turned into World War I. At the street corner where the assassination took place, there is a museum dedicated to that day. It is a quite small museum but definitely well worth a visit.
