Lisbon – Bairro Alto and Chiado

I was initially planning to go to Sintra on Easter Saturday. The weather forecast, however, made me change my plans at the last moment and I spent the day walking around Bairro Alto and Chiado and later Belém. The pictures in this post were taken in Bairro Alto and Chiado and they include, among others, photographs of two remarkable buildings. The unobtrusive facade of the Church of Saint Roche belies a rich Baroque interior. The church was built at the end of the 16th century by the Jesuit Order. The other remarkable building is a house built in 1864. The tile decoration on its facade shows allegorical figures of Industry, Commerce, Science and Agriculture.
